Beauty Review: Eco Coco Tan

OMG. You guys. I am super excited to be introducing you all to this natural self tanner by Eco Coco. The first self tanner I’ve used since I rocked a splodgy fake tan look (along with super thin 90′s eyebrows) in high school.

And I’m pretty proud to admit, that ever since my high school days I haven’t really gone near fake tan again. Until now. You see I am a huuuuge fan of coconut oil. And when I realised that this babe of a product was infused with lots of it along with other super food-esque products like Acai and Goji Berry’s I thought it was time to face my tanning fears and give it a try.

Now, I have to admit that my skin is actually quite naturally bronzed due to my South American background, so a little goes a long way. But this product is so natural and gentle I can’t imagine that you would wake up looking anywhere near an ‘Oompa Loompa Queen’ if you do have pale skin and attempt to use it. Trust me? Fab. So let me tell you a little more about it.

The Eco Coco tanning cream is all natural, contains around 80% certified organic ingredients but the best bit is that it’s infused with coconut oil so when you layer it on your skin, your skin will suck it right up. And it’s all due to the babin’ moisturising properties that the coconut oil brings to the product.

You see if you’ve ever used coconut oil as a moisturising cream you’ll get what I mean. It’s nowhere near oily and by far the number one moisturiser on planet earth. According to me. But you’ll totally agree once you try it.

Eco Coco tan told me that “the molecular structure of coconut oil is similar to our skin’s own bio-support network which gives it deep moisturising properties. It will rapidly hydrate, condition and shield your skin to prevent moisture loss and is rich in anti-ageing and healing Vitamins A, C and E.”

And what this really means is that it was made for your skin. Plus because we’re all after that sexy sun-kissed ‘I’ spend my life in Europe’ glow this product is a must-try. So let’s all use this product and pretend like it’s not winter. Then we can get through the next couple of months looking like we’ve all been living in Europe together.

The hardest thing about using this tanner was actually getting the strength to take my pants off to use it. True story. It was so cold on Monday night. (You would have felt the same way too if you had been there!) But once you get through that difficult first step you’ll be fine.

I applied it on my legs like I would normally apply a moisturiser and rubbed it all the way down to my feet. You only need about a five-ten cent size piece (depending on the size of your legs). I unfortunately wasn’t blessed with Gisele Bundchen length legs so I used around 5 cents worth. But if you have Gisele-esque legs then go for gold and layer on a little more on.

(Of course, as soon as I was done I washed my hands with soapy warm water in case the tanner stained my hands – but it didn’t.) Then I went to sleep.

The next morning my hands didn’t resemble any type of ‘Oompa-Loompa Queen’ (which was a huge relief) and my legs had been given a fun ‘I’ve been living in Europe’ glow that I could tell my husband was totes jelly of.

(He didn’t say anything, but I just knew.)

Actually, I think my legs looked even better and even more European on the third day. The product says it takes 6-8 hours to develop but I’m finding the longer I leave it the better they’re looking.

You know those gradual tanners that are out there, that you can moisturise with daily to develop a natural and bronzed looking tan? Palmers do an amazing one. I think this Eco Coco self-tanner is like one of those but a little stronger and much quicker.

So if you would like to feel like you have European legs during an Australian winter and want to use a product with no hidden nasties I would highly recommend you give Eco Coco tan a go.
